Is the e-85 made with race fuel going to be allowed?
Or pump fuel only?
What is the octane rating of the racing fuel blend?
Where is it available?
How are you testing Fuel? Thanks Jim

Jim,

At this time Rockett Brand is supposed to release its "racing e85" on an estimated date of March 10. Its made with racing fuel as the blender to the best of my knowledge. Octane (cant find my spoec sheet....Fonz verify me if you can) 110-112 rather than the pump 105 made with 87 octane fuel. Cost ~ $3-5.50 a gallon versus pump versions at this time is $1.67. Im sure that will go up some come summertime. Lets hope it stays down so the race version does too as it is based on the base oil prices too.

Rockett Brand commented on the race version is "oxygenated". However, ethanol carries its own oxygen so in a sense it already is regardless of blend. Also commented was the source of the corn/ethanol for RockettBrand being controlled for consistency.

As far as testing we have tester to test the percentage. The minimum is 85% ethanol, maximum is being discussed.

More info on pump fuel. The gubment does regulate it as far as the percentage. Between Oct and April it must be E75 for cold starting issues, then in the summer months it has to be e85. I am sure they have a tolerance range though. As far as other agents in the fuel there are anti-corrosive agents, etc. I am awaiting the spec sheet from Mobil as I type to give hardcore numbers to compare pump versions to race versions. Some may not be comfortable to run the pump version, but at this time I thinkn there may be too much emphasis on the "effectivness" of the pump version.

I think ADM should sponsor us!!!!

Have you guys read the new drag racer mag out right now with the e-85 article.?.They say the pump fuel percentage is all over the place.
I see quick fuel sells a tester also. I didn't find it on their website though...
The race blend is the only way I could race with you guys/gals.
Thanks!
ADM is sponsoring me!!!With a job for my Wife...LOL Seriously I sent them several proposals through Tammy's contacts years ago when I ran e-85 last time and it was evidently "filed"..

I imagine that woudl be the case depending an when and where you test. Im have no experience yet, but its coming. Depending upon time of year, regianal location and station to staion I am sure you can get a wide rang eof results. However, I dont think many of us are going coast to coast through the winter summer.

Dude I have no idea. My compression ratios allow me to be mor comfosartable with the idea. Other may not feel as comfortable about it. Depends on your idividual combos, but I am going to try to test one source and se how consistent it is. If one source is all over the place AFTER the summer blend is put into place, then Ill probly go the race version route as will most others that run the pump version I would guess.

Convert, get a couple drums and let that thing fly like it did in that my favorite vid of your ride!

Mix your own....then test it to make specs.
to test:
get a 100ml graduated cylinder from "Homescience.com"...get the glass one.

put 48ml cold filtered water in the cylinder then dump it into a holding container.
put 50ml E85 into your cylinder, dump the 48 ml water on "top" of the E85 , plug the top and shake....
you will soon see that 50ml + 48ml does not = 98ml....it will be more like 93ml.

the fuel will seperate after about 10 minutes....take the top line minus the second line and this will give you value "x"

"X" x 1.94 + 2.1 = gasoline volume
100% - gasoline volume = ethanol %.

i mix my own and use the premium 93 octane with the ethanol.....

if you guys need to know anything else about E85 or need a carb ...let me know....
