I need some E85 guidelines for my e85 dyno session...

What is the "target" temperature for the EGT's ??

What is the "target" A/F ratio for the o2 sensors ??

What spark plugs are ideal for E85 ??

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I have Rockett Brand E85 and E76 from "Family Express".

Thanks, Duane

Well Heath says .75 Lambda ( which when I am home I can convert to A/F ratio...dont remember off hand)

He aslo said dont change plugs, timing, nothing. Since you know the EGTs on a good setup now, I think your target is that yet again, but not 100%. Call him, he is more than helpful....

Cant wait to see the test results. Looks like we are converting Brett this week, and maybe me next week now.....

excerp from his page ...

"1. No matter what type of fuel system you are running you must increase flow (volume) by roughly 30% over a (gas) setup. This is more than just increasing the main jets (in a carburetor) by 30%. Flow must be increased throughout the whole system and fuel curve.
2. Start out with your total timing the same as on gas then adjust for best mph.
3. Water temp. needs to be 140 - 150 degrees when you pull into the water box and at least 160 degrees when you stage. Your jetting is close when you gain about 10 degrees in the 1/8th and about 20 degrees in the quarter.
4. Stoichiometric ratio for E85 is 9.8:1. If you are using an air/fuel ratio meter set to read gasoline shoot for an air/fuel ratio of 10.5:1 to 11:1 or .75 to .80 lambda @ WOT for best (safe) power. If you use an EGT meter to tune off of you know that ideal temps. will vary greatly from one combination to another. It has been our finding that if you keep it below 1500 degrees while you are sorting out your tune up you don't have to worry about hurting anything in the process. We have found that most naturally aspirated combinations end up making best power between 1150 and 1250 degrees on E85. Forced induction applications usually run 100 to 200 degrees hotter. If you need a good "inexpensive" EGT meter check out http://www.ifamilysoftware.com/8307.html
5. E85 has a high resistance to knock but lights off easy so it is susceptible to pre-ignition. A non protruding tip plug is recommended. Autolite Racing plugs with the cut back strap work well for us. We run AR-133 with the blower, this is a little cooler then you would need for natural aspiration. When reading your plugs look for them to be real clean with a little tan color down inside the threads on the porcelain. If no color appears after the first couple of runs, jet up until some starts to show then adjust jetting for best mph from there. "

that's some good info. I was running a 12.0:1 on a gas scale when i was tuning for e85, but it seemed to do pretty well. Added about 4* of timing vs gas tune. I had previously cut back the straps on my plugs, but didn't do it when i put this setup back together, maybe i will get back into doing that... I hadn't heard anything about cutting them back for e85 till now. So that's good info. Probably one of those better safe than sorry things

I think we were shooting for about 10.8, no timing change, and have cut backs plugs on it.

Also, I kept jetting up and gaining MPH, but I lose 20 degrees on a run...that part I cant figure out.....however on the last time out we thinkit was extremely fat and pretty much choking the engine out about 800'.....find out this weekend if our thoughts are even close to right.

10.8 on a gas scale? wow... i've been messing around with running a lot leaner around 11.5-12.3. But my setup is obviously a lot different than you guys being an efi v6 with forced induction. basically everything different.. I just figured i'd see people talkin about leanin out a lot. i need to get to the track and see the traps with different fueling.

im not saying its right....lol......plus i wasnt having any luck with the O2, so I am back to the butt dyno. No matter what I did I couldnt get anything below 18.1 but I am sure its pig fat!! So I ditched the O2 logger. Still have it over jetted I feel but its where it ran best MPH n/a.

I'm EFI with FI and we are tuning to .735-.75 Lambda.

really? damn. Well like i said, once the trans is back together i will adjust my pcm and try to start off at around .82 lambda and work my way down untill i stop seeing gains or start to loose some trap speed. then play with timing... I didn't think i'd need THAT much fuel though. I'm already like 40% over my gas tune and still at .82 ish lambda

I picked up 40 rwhp going from 10.5:1 a/f to 12.5:1 a/f on the spray. I am now shooting for 12.8-13.0:1 a/f on the spray (gasoline scale)

im at 42 percent over gas rt now but didnt really have a gas tune to base off of so flyin blind but seems to like it so far need a good day at the track
